Department of Biochemistry

The Department of Biochemistry was established in 1980 and was the first amongst the medical colleges affiliated to Punjab University. There are 13 teachers including one professor, one associate professor and one assistant professor, who are actively involved in teaching the undergraduate students (First Year and Second Year MBBS). In addition, Clinical Biochemistry Laboratory run by two qualified biochemists under the supervision of the Professor provides absolutely free services of various clinical laboratory tests to the indoor and outdoor patients of the Sir Ganga Ram Hospital.

The student’s laboratory is air-conditioned and well-equipped according to the standards prescribed by the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council and University of Punjab. Topics Covered in lectures and practical classes are further discussed in-depth in the tutorial classes for better understanding of biochemistry. Students are being trained in problem based learning in small tutorial batches along with traditional methods of teaching. Internal assessment of the students in the subject is done on regular basis both in theory and practicals. This helps to engage the students continuously in the subject.

Faculty of the department is actively participating in International Conferences held in and out of college and present their research papers. Also department has a tradition of contributing Research Papers annually in to college journal in which entire department is involved.

The Department is actively involved in providing research facilities to postgraduate students.
