Gynae Unit III was established in 2008 under the leadership of Prof. Sardar Al Fareed Zafar, to deal with the ever increasing burden of Obstetrics in SGRH. It was formally approved with 23 designated seats by the Health Department in 2019, as a result of persistent efforts of current Head, Prof. Shamila Ijaz Munir. The Unit has 40 indoor beds and 46 shared emergency beds to cater for more than 1000 patients weekly in Outdoor and Emergency. A vast variety of Obstetrical and Gynaecological services are provided by skilled and trained faculty around the clock. In addition, many Oncology, Urogynaecologic, Infertility and Fetomaternal procedures are being done regularly in the unit. The unit has a dynamic faculty, which teaches and trains undergraduate students and 26 postgraduate students of FCPS and MS programs. There is a well-designed teaching program for postgraduates, that leverages pedagogical innovations like case based discussions, problem based learning, journal club meetings, labour room skill drills, and neonatal resuscitation workshops. Apart from clinical work and teaching, the unit is actively involved in research and promotes a research-friendly environment. The faculty has to its credit, numerous publications in prestigious National and International journals
