The Department of Radiology was established at Fama Jinnah Medical College with limited equipment comprising of a single convenonal X-ray Machine. Dr. Saadat Iqbal was an eminent pioneer, who made numerous efforts for the department during the inial phase. Since its incepon the department has undergone considerable evoluon and has achieved its current state of the art status. Dr. A. H. Mian was the first Professor of Radiology, who also acquired an Ultrasound machine for the department. He was succeeded by Prof. Akram Cheema (1979-1989) and Prof. Syed Anwar ul Haq (1989-2002). Subsequently the department was spearheaded by Prof. Safdar Ali Malik (2002-2011), during whose tenure the department was completely upgraded with modern equipment. Other prominent names in the departmental history include Dr. Shahid Waheed & Prof. Khalid Rehman Yousaf. Today the department connues to flourish under its current Head, Dr. Saman Chaudhary. The department has Aquillon 4 slice CT Scanner with provision of post processing and CT Angiography since 2005. It also has acquired MRI unit with PACS system since 2010.Three colour Doppler USG machines were also added to the equipment during 2005-2010 Furthermore new X-ray Units with automac processors for OPD & emergency and five mobile X-ray units for bedside cases have been added. A Mammography unit was developed, thus compleng the radiological modalies being provided under one roof.
