Introduction of the Department

Gynae Unit II has been catering to a large proportion of high risk pregnancies and complicated gynaecological patients. Focussed consultation, comprehensive treatment and broad range of diagnostic and therapeutic services are provided to all obstetrics and gynaecological patients. Under current Head, Prof. Noreen Akmal, the unit is passionately involved in medical education at undergraduate and post graduate levels. The staff further includes 1 Associate Professor, 2 Assistant Professors ,3 Senior Registrar and 8 FCPS – WMO’s , 28 Postgraduate trainee and 10 House Officers for smooth functioning and proper patient care.

Dr. Noreen Akmal is a highly esteemed professor and the Head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Fatima Jinnah Medical University. With extensive expertise in maternal and fetal medicine, Dr. Akmal has a profound interest in managing pregnancy-induced hypertension, screening and prevention of pre-eclampsia, fetal growth restriction, and Doppler studies.
Dr. Akmal possesses comprehensive knowledge and experience in fetal surveillance for complex multiple pregnancies, the diagnosis of fetal congenital abnormalities, Rh incompatibility, and fetal growth disorders. She is particularly skilled in ultrasound, ensuring meticulous fetal assessments and care.
A dedicated educator, Dr. Akmal is committed to teaching and research, contributing significantly to the advancement of maternal and fetal health. Her broad range of interests and expertise make her a key figure in providing exceptional care and advancing medical knowledge in maternal and fetal medicine.

Monitoring Low-risk women are monitored using standardized fundal height measurements, while high-risk women are monitored with estimated fetal weight.

National and International Liaison: We collaborate with national and international genetic labs for karyotype analysis, genetic panels, and exome sequencing.
