INTERNATIONAL DAY OF THE GIRL CHILD AT FATIMA JINNAH MEDICAL UNIVERSITY

11th October is designated International Day of the Girl Child, by UNITED NATIONS. Vice Chancellor Fatima Jinnah Medical University Prof. Khalid Masud Gondal organized an Interactive Session with 2nd year MBBS class of 350 students. This meeting was the continuity of Vice Chancellor’s vision to interact personally with every undergraduate class to develop confident future doctors.

He was accompanied by Pro Vice Chancellor Prof. Shamsa Humayun, Dean Basic Sciences Prof Munazza Iqbal, Director ORIC Dr Azra Mahmud, Director QEC Prof. Bilquis Shabbir, HoD Anatomy Department Prof. Aliya Zahid, HoD Physiology Department Dr. Naghmana Latif & Dr. Faiza Ibrar from Biochemistry Department.

Prof. Shamsa Humayun gave brief introduction of Vice Chancellor mentioning his leadership qualities. Director ORIC Dr. Azra gave comprehensive introduction and mentioned role of her Department in Medical Education, Concepts of Research and Academic Freedom, Ethical boundaries and demanded funding Support from institute.

Director QEC Prof. Bilquis Shabbir introduced QEC Department and its functions. She highlighted the role of QEC in international ranking of institutions. She advised the students to fill QEC survey forms available on website. These forms are related to Course evaluations and Teacher evaluation. She stressed the students to take time to fill the forms as these are crucial for ranking of University.

Prof. Khalid Masud Gondal’s address to the students was very motivational and encouraging.In reference to “International Day of the Girl Child” VC FJMU talked about how FJMU was created as the only women medical institute and continues to bring up and groom females which are proving themselves all across the world. He stressed on the role our daughters play in our society. And how alumni of FJMU have outstandingly served in the current crises including flood. He narrated his own viva as a Physiology student and showed his commitment for a better examination environment for FJMU students. He mentioned journey of FJMC to FJMU mentioning that University was announced in 2015 and recognized from HEC in 2017, Research Journal of FJMU was also approved in 2017 when he was appointed as first regular Vice Chancellor of FJMU.

He mentioned that Thalassemia Centre of FJMU is the largest program in the world. We have facility of M.Phil programes, FCPS/MS,MD Programes, Medical Education Certifications, First Male Paramedical School and now above all a new 600 bedded Mother and Child Block at FJMU / SGRH.

He promised the students for independent female section of masjid, completion of swimming pool, new auditorium and solarized air conditioning of Shujaat Ali Hall. His aim is to introduce Campus Management Paperless System and encourage the students for 90% attendance in classes.

Vice Chancellor told the students how institute met flood challenge and relief teams were sent and FJMU adopted village to rebuilt houses. He committed that all activities in the institution are related for future progress to achieve international ranking and uplifting of University. Prof. Kamran Khalid Khawaja HOD Surgery Department also addressed students and showed his aims to achieve high ranking of University.

At the end a Question & Answer Session was organized by Prof. Khalid Masud Gondal. He personally responded to each and every question in a polite manner and made the students comfortable.
