The Opening Ceremony of 20th Biennial National Surgical Conference (Surgicon 2022) was organized by the Society of Surgeons Pakistan LAHORE CHAPTER in the historical Library Hall of King Edward Medical University, Lahore. President Prof Syed Asghar Naqi, General Secretary Dr Umar Warriach, members executives, Vice Chancellors, Principals of Medical Universities/ Colleges and a large number of famous and distinguished surgeons of the country attended the Conference.
President College of Physicians and Surgeons of Pakistan Prof Muhammad Shoaib Shafi attended the ceremony as Chief Guest. Prof. Khalid Masood Gondal graced the Conference as Special Invited Guest.
On this occasion the country’s famous surgeon and best teacher Prof. Khawaja Muhammad Azeem and Vice Chancellor FJMU Prof. Khalid Masood Gondal were honored with Lifetime Achievement Award and a tribute was also presented to them.
Previously, Prof. Khalid Masood Gondal has also been awarded Presidential Pride of Performance in 2021 and Tamgha e Imtiaz in 2013 by the Government of Pakistan.
His excellent services in the field of Surgery were also highly admired.
Prof. Abrar Ashraf Ali recited his Citation through a presentation and also highlighted the services of Prof. Dr. Khalid Masood Gondal in other relevant fields. He has been the representative of Pakistan through Educational Institutions in Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia, USA, SAARC, MENA Region and played a pivotal role in Signing of Memorandum of Mutual Understanding with the developing and developed countries.
Prof. Khalid Masood Gondal is a senior faculty member of the American College of Surgeons, Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) Program and has represented the country at International Forums including the Royal College of Canada, UK, Ireland and Australia.
He is the most active member of the Society of Surgeons Pakistan. He has served the Society as Joint Secretary and General Secretary. He also headed the Society of Surgeons Pakistan as Vice President and President. He not only revived the Society in 1999 as General Secretary along with Prof Mukhtar Hassan Randhawa but also uplifted the academics and social interaction among surgical fraternity through innovative strategies.
Prof. Khalid Gondal has the honor of being the regular Vice-Chancellor of King Edward Medical University once and Fatima Jinnah Medical University twice. He is currently serving as the Vice-Chancellor of Fatima Jinnah Medical University, Lahore. He has contributed in Education, Research, Infrastructure Development and Financial Micro-Management of the institution. During his tenure,New University and Fellowship Programs were also introduced and PhD programs in basic sciences at King Edward Medical University were approved by PM&DC and HEC. New Fellowship Programs were also introduced at FJMU. During his tenure at Fatima Jinnah Medical University, state-of-the-art facilities, Fatima Jinnah Institute of Mother and Child Health has been inaugurated recently. The journey of development in Educational, Teaching and Research Fields is ongoing at FJMU. Under his dynamic leadership, Fatima Jinnah Medical University played a significant role in the rehabilitation work at flood affected areas.
