COMMENCEMENT OF THE FIRST CLINICOPATHOLOGICAL CONFERENCE (CPC) SESSION FOR THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2024–25

Enhancing the clinical proficiency of undergraduate and postgraduate students of Fatima Jinnah Medical University, Lahore, was the main goal of this specific session.
Prof. Bilquis Shabbir, Chairperson of the Department of Medicine / Director of the Quality Enhancement Cell/ Dean of the Faculty of Nursing, painstakingly planned the event at FJMU under the kind patronage of the esteemed Vice Chancellor of FJMU, Prof. Khalid Masud Gondal.
The conference featured presentations from two clinical departments: the Department of Surgery Unit-1, headed by Prof. Dr. Kamran Khalid Khawaja, and the Department of Orthopaedics, headed by Dr. Tanveer Afzal.
The first case on “A 21-YEAR-OLD FEMALE WITH RECURRENT NECK SWELLING AFTER TOTAL THYROIDECTOMY” was presented by the Department of Surgery Unit-1, with comprehensive insights provided by House Officers Dr. Bareera Sohail & Dr. Naila and Final Year Students Ms. Sameen Fatima, Ms. Maliha Shahid, and Ms. Arooj Chaudhary covering aspects such as History, Physical Examination, Diagnosis and Postgraduate Residents Dr. Tayyaba Jamil & Dr. Anum Iftikhar covered the aspects such as clinical management, case discussion, treatment, and complications. The Histopathological Examinations were presented by Dr. Irfan Bashir.
The Head of the Surgery Department, Prof. Dr.Kamran Khalid Khawaja, gave his expert opinion and insightful remarks to wrap up the discussion.
The second case, “17-YEAR-OLD FEMALE STUDENT FROM GUJRAT PRESENTING TO OUTPATIENT DEPARTMENT (OPD) WITH PAIN IN HIP,” was presented by the Department of Orthopaedics. The postgraduate resident of the orthopaedic department, Dr. Syed Zamman, covered aspects of history, physical examination, investigations, clinical management, and complications. The Histopathological Examinations were presented by Prof. Dr. Ameena Ashraf.
To conclude the conversation, Dr. Tanveer Afzal, Head of the Orthopaedics Department, offered his experienced analysis and insightful comments.
The esteemed Vice Chancellor of FJMU, Prof. Khalid Masud Gondal, took an active part in emphasising the value of CPC as a setting for higher learning and the essential role that early detection and treatment play in patient care. He continued by emphasizing the need to treat patients by admitting them, diagnosing them, and starting therapy as soon as possible. He also delivered a comprehensive talk on Thyroid Tumors, being the best surgeon, and his vast experience in the field of Surgery. The audience sought cherished knowledge from his prime words with great appreciation.
The esteemed Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Khalid Masud Gondal, expressed his gratitude to Prof. Bilquis Shabbir for arranging them.
The faculty and the students warmly appreciated the comprehensive and simple explanation of the two examples, which emphasized the importance of spirituality in medical practice. The conferences significantly enhance the clinical knowledge and skill development of participating experts and students at Fatima Jinnah Medical University, Lahore.
