CONCLUDING CEREMONY OF THE ANNUAL SPORTS FESTIVAL GALA 2023 OF FATIMA JINNAH MEDICAL UNIVERSITY

The closing ceremony of the Annual Sports Festival 2023 was held at the Hostels Grounds of Fatima Jinnah Medical University Lahore.

The ceremony began with the recitation of the Holy Quran and the National Anthem.

The Chief Guest of the Ceremony, Prof. Dr. Javed Akram, inaugurated the games along with Vice-Chancellor Prof. Khalid Masood Gondal.

Caretaker Health Ministers of the Punjab, Prof. Dr. Javed Akram and Dr. Jamal Nasir, graced the occasion as Chief Guests.

In the colourful opening ceremony, the contingent of students greeted the guests. The aerobics was also performed by the students.

The sports events included the Chati Race, Three Leg Race, Sack Race, Tug of War, Musical Chair, and Athletics competitions, in which the students participated enthusiastically.

Former Captain Pakistan Cricket Team Muhammad Yousuf, Vice Chancellor of King Edward Medical University Professor Mahmood Ayaz, Former Vice Chancellor of Fatima Jinnah Medical University Professor Shamsa Humayun, Former Dean Undergraduate Professor Munazza Iqbal, Chairperson Surgery King Edward Medical University Professor Asghar Naqi, Professor Farrukh Kamal, and President of the Alumni Association (AFJOG) Dr. Munira Ahmed and Dr. Tasneem Aamir graced the event as special guests.

Prof. Kamran Khalid Khawaja, Prof. Noreen Akmal, Prof. Aisha Malik, Prof. Bilquis Shabbir, Prof. Nadeem Kasuri, Faculty Members and a large number of students participated from the university side.

In the welcome address, Principal Prof. Noreen Akmal welcomed the distinguished guests, congratulated Prof. Khalid Masood Gondal for a successful and wonderful sports festival, and appreciated the performance of the students.

Vice Chancellor Professor Khalid Masood Gondal welcomed the Chief Guests and other dignitaries. He said that Fatima Jinnah Medical University is the first and unique medical institution in Pakistan in all aspects of academics, research, training, and extracurricular activities. The journey of progress continues at Fatima Jinnah Medical University. Like every year, Fatima Jinnah Medical University is celebrating the sports festival this year in its traditional style. He further said that sports activities are very important for the mental development of students. Healthy sports activities help in improving the mental abilities of students.

Professor Javed Akram said that as doctors, we must take part in extracurricular activities. A doctor is happy at that moment when he or she becomes a source of healing for a patient. Therefore, you should involve yourself in academic activities as well as sports activities and bring glory to your institution at the highest level. It’s a good sign that medical institutions are organising extracurricular events for their students. I congratulate the outstanding sportspersons of Fatima Jinnah Medical University on their Annual Sports Day Festival.

Dr. Jamal Nasir said that today is very important for your mental and physical health. Enjoy today as much as you can because these memorable moments will not come back in your life.

Former Captain Muhammad Yusuf said that sports are the best activity for your health, and health is one of the greatest blessings of Allah Almighty. So, make this day memorable. Finally, he said special prayers for the success of the Pakistan Cricket Team in the World Cup.

At the end of the event, prizes were distributed to the outstanding students, and shields were distributed to the distinguished guests, Convener Sports Committee Prof. Shamila Ijaz Munir, and other faculty members.
