A pre-scientific conference workshop was organised by the department of ENT and head & neck surgery at Fatima Jinnah Medical University on December 11, 2023.
The workshop titled “Smog and its Impact on Quality of Life” was organised under the dynamic supervision of Prof. Dr. Mohammad Irshad Malik, Head of ENT Department, FJMU, accompanied by Prof. Dr. Mirza Mohammad Sarwar, Head of ENT Unit 2, FJMU.
The highly esteemed speakers and facilitators included Prof. Dr. Manzoor Ahmad, head of the ENT department at Rahber Medical and Dental College/Rangers Teaching Hospital Lahore, ex-head of the ENT Department FJMU/SGRH , former dean of faculty ENT CPSP, and Prof. Dr. Muhammad Amjad, former principal of the Services Institute of Medical Sciences and ex-head of the ENT department SIMS.
The honourable Vice Chancellor, FJMU Prof. Dr. Khalid Masud Gondal (Tamgha e Imtiaz & Presidential Pride of Performance), graced the occasion as Chief Guest. He gave his valuable advice to doctors about the importance of this workshop. He appreciated the efforts of the ENT Department in arranging workshops for better training of students and doctors.
Prof. Bilquis Shabbir, Chairperson, Department of Medicine/Director QEC/Dean Faculty of Nursing, and Organizing Secretary for the Annual Scientific Conference also attended the workshop.
The workshop was attended by a notable number of participants from various departments as well as postgraduate residents of the ENT department.
The well-conversant facilitators enlightened the participants with the causes of smog and its hazardous outcomes in terms of various upper respiratory tract problems, its impact on quality of life, and how they can be avoided. The workshop ended with an extended question-and-answer session. Post-workshop feedback proformas were filled out by the participants, the aim of which was to improve the quality and content of the educational workshop.
