In honour of Prof. Dr. Nabiha Hassan, a Memorial Lecture was organized on March 5, 2024, in the auditorium of Fatima Jinnah Medical University, Lahore, under the generous patronage of Vice Chancellor FJMU Prof. Dr. Khalid Masud Gondal (Tamgha e Imtiaz & Presidential Pride or Performance) to commemorate and acknowledge the exceptional services of Prof. Dr. Nabiha Hassan.
President AFJOG Dr. Munira Ahmad, Vice President Prof. Dr. Muniza Qayyum, Dr. Tauseef Irfan, Prof. Dr. Asma Malik, Prof. Dr. Mussarrat Nisar, Prof. Tauqir Khalid, Dr. Mahlaqa Rana & Dr. Zahida Ijaz Khwaja, Prof. Nishat Maqsood and Dr. Zahida Durrani, Dr. Tasneem Raza, Prof. Dr. Mukhtar Randhawa, and Prof. Dr. Bushra Falaksher graced the event as special guests.
Prof. Dr. Nuzhat Ashai (MD Nephrology) graced the occasion as Guest Speaker.
Pro-Vice Chancellor FJMU Prof. Dr. Kamran Khalid Khawaja, Principal Prof. Noreen Akmal, Chairperson Department of Medicine/ Director ORIC Prof. Bilquis Shabbir, heads of various departments, faculty members, old graduates, and a large number of students attended this lecture.
A great tribute was paid to Prof. Dr. Nabiha Hassan, the founding member of AFJOG.
Dr. Tauseef Irfan, General Secretary of AFJOG, gave the opening address. She presented detailed aspects of Prof. Dr. Nabiha Hassan’s life.
Dr. Tasneem Raza said in her address that I have spent the best years of my life at FJMC. I graduated in 1964 and learned a lot from this prestigious institution. The basic purpose of this organization (AFJOG) is to serve humanity and provide the best healthcare facilities to ailing people. She shared her thoughts about Prof. Dr. Nabiha Hassan, saying that she was one of the most generous and kind lady and her services for patients, her students, and her colleagues are matchless. She also praised the Vice Chancellor of FJMU, Prof. Dr. Khalid Masud Gondal, for his kind support with AFJOG. She also presented some special words of poetry to dedicate Prof. Dr. Nabiha Hassan.
Prof. Dr. Nighat Mir (Diplomate, American Board of Rheumatology and Internal Medicine) expressed pleasure to be at FJMU. She praised her teachers and mentors, especially Prof. Nabiha Hassan, and dedicated her success to her parents and teachers. She also mentioned the achievements of AFJOG, especially the establishment of the Akhtar Mubarik Referral Centre (AMRC), located in Garden Town, Lahore, in a spacious building donated by Mr. Malik Mubarik Ali and his wife Begum Akhtar Mubarik. It is a referral centre where free-of-cost, specialized services are provided in around 30 clinics by renowned Professors & Consultants. It has a well-equipped laboratory. Facilities for ECG, X-rays, Ultrasonography, Mammography, Audiometry and Physiotherapy are also available. She further said that AFJOG shares a close bond with its alma mater. It helps the students of FJMU by providing scholarships to them, by awarding medals to the students for their out-standing achievements, and is always being ready to help through stressful events by providing scholarships.
Prof. Dr. Nuzhat Ashai (MD Nephrology in Cleveland, OH, with over 39 years of experience in the medical field), delivered a comprehensive and informative lecture on hypertension, its types, and presented a case study of a hypertensive patient.
At the end, shields were distributed among the participants of AFJOG and guests.
Pro-Vice Chancellor FJMU, Prof. Dr. Kamran Khalid Khawaja, presented a special souvenir to the guest speaker on behalf of Vice Chancellor FJMU, Prof. Dr. Khalid Masud Gondal.
