SEMINAR ON AWARENESS OF BREAST CANCER WITH THE THEME ” QUALITY CARE UNDER ONE ROOF” AT FATIMA JINNAH MEDICAL UNIVERSITY
A seminar on breast cancer awareness with the theme “QUALITY CARE UNDER ONE ROOF”was organized at Fatima Jinnah Medical University.
Punjab Health Minister Prof. Dr. Yasmin Rashid grace the occasion as Chief Guest.
Vice Chancellor Fatima Jinnah Medical University Prof. Dr. Khalid Masood Gondal welcomed Health Minister Punjab Prof. Dr. Yasmin Rashid.
Vice Chancellor King Edward Medical University Prof. Dr. Mahmood Ayaz, Former Vice Chancellor Fatima Jinnah Medical University Prof. Dr. Aamer Zaman Khan, Principal Continental Medical College Lahore Prof. Dr. Ayesha Shaukat and President Society of Surgeons of Pakistan Lahore Chapter Prof. Dr. Asghar Naqi attended the seminar as Special Guests.
Under the supervision of Prof. Kamran Khalid Khawaja, Prof. Imran Aslam and Prof. Shehzad Alam Shah, Department of Surgery, Fatima Jinnah Medical University/ Sir Ganga Ram Hospital organized this Breast Cancer Awareness Seminar. The core objective of this seminar is to spread awareness about Breast Cancer.
In the welcome address, Vice Chancellor Fatima Jinnah Medical University Prof. Dr. Khalid Masood Gondal thanked the Chief Guest Health Minister Punjab Prof. Dr. Yasmin Rashid and other Guests for participating in the seminar. Prof. Dr. Khalid Masood Gondal in his address said that Health Minister Punjab Prof. Dr. Yasmin Rashid has played pivotal role in the Thalassemia prevention and genetic disorders project ,the World’s Best Prevention Program. We are very grateful to Provincial Health Minister Punjab Prof. Dr. Yasmin Rashid for establishing Fatima Jinnah Institute of Mother and Child Health at FJMU/SGRH.
He said Fatima Jinnah Institute of Mother and Child Health is a state of the art institution with International Standards. He further said that the MS/ FCPS Postgraduate Breast Surgery Fellowship Program will be started in 2023 at Fatima Jinnah Medical University/ Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, Lahore. At the end of his address, he apprised that the awareness of Breast Cancer, Timely Diagnosis and the Role of Doctors related to it, can be very helpful in prevention of this disease.
Vice-Chancellor King Edward Medical University Professor Dr. Mahmood Ayaz said in his address that the prevalence of breast cancer is increasing rapidly in Pakistan and along with this the mortality is also being increasing. It is also becoming more and more common among young girls. He described three basic principles with the help of which it is possible to avoid Breast Cancer. Controlling Obesity, Prevention of Cousin Marriage and Early Marriage with early childbirth can prevent the spread of this disease.
Former Vice Chancellor Fatima Jinnah Medical University Professor Dr. Aamer Zaman Khan said in his address that I have served this institution for 25 years and Prof.Dr. Khalida Usmani first started Breast Cancer Treatment at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, Lahore. He further said that breast cancer is a curable disease and timely diagnosis can play an important role in its prevention. He appreciated the services provided by Prof. Andleeb Khanum and Dr. Huriyat Afzal regarding Breast Cancer. At the end of his address, he thanked Health Minister Punjab Prof. Dr. Yasmeen Rashid and Vice Chancellor Fatima Jinnah Medical University Prof. Dr. Khalid Masood Gondal.
Chief Guest Health Minister Punjab Prof. Dr. Yasmin Rashid said in her address that today I am attending this Seminar as a Patient. She had very motivational speech narrating her Breast Cancer Disease, the phases she had to go through and the difficulties she had to face during this disease. She said that, her family supported her a lot. She further informed that the sooner it is diagnosed, the better the chances of survival. She further added that her heart beats for Fatima Jinnah Medical University. The 550-bed Fatima Jinnah Institute of Mother and Child Health, a long-held dream, is soon to be fulfilled and inaugurated with four new Super-Specialties of Gynecology, which include Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, Gynecological Oncology, Maternal and Fetal Medicine and Urogynaecology.
At the end of the seminar, a cake was also cut by Society of Surgeons Pakistan, Lahore Region.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Khalid Masood Gondal distributed the shields among the Chief Guest, Health Minister Punjab Prof. Dr. Yasmin Rashid and other Guests at the end of the seminar.
A breast Cancer Awareness Walk was also organized at the end of the seminar.
