SEMINAR ON WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY AT FATIMA JINNAH MEDICAL UNIVERSITY

A Seminar on World Mental Health Day was organized at Fatima Jinnah Medical University, Lahore

Chairman Punjab Higher Education Commission Prof. Dr. Shahid Munir graced the occasion as *Chief Guest*.

Vice Chancellor Fatima Jinnah Medical University *Prof. Dr. Khalid Masood Gondal* welcomed the Chairman Punjab Higher Education Commission Prof. Dr. Shahid Muneer.

Child Psychiatrist Shaukat Khanum Memorial Hospital Prof. Dr. Sheharyar Jouvinda, Former Head of Psychiatry Department Lahore General Hospital, Prof. Dr. Altaf Qadir Khan, Head of Psychiatry Department King Edward Medical University/ Punjab Institute of Mental Health Prof. Ali Madeeh Hashmi, Head of Psychiatry Department Gulab Devi Hospital Prof. Dr. Mohammad Mujtaba, Consultant Gastroenterologist Prof. Dr. Athar Ahmed Saeed from UK, Dr. Hamid Atiq, Pro Vice Chancellor/ Head of Gynecology Department Fatima Jinnah Medical University, Prof. Dr. Shamsa Humayun, Head of Surgery Department, Prof. Dr. Kamran Khalid, Head of Dermatology Department/ Registrar Fatima Jinnah Medical University Prof. Dr. Muhammad Nadeem, Dean Basic Sciences/ Head of Pathology Department Prof. Dr. Munazza Iqbal, Head of Department of Medicine Unit 2/ Director Quality Enhancement Cell Prof. Dr. Bilquis Shabbir, Head of Psychiatry Department Dr. Ayesha Rashid and other faculty members participated in the event.

The Theme of Seminar was to *“MAKE MENTAL HEALTH & WELL-BEING FOR ALL A GLOBAL PRIORITY”*

In the Seminar, there was a detailed discussion on mental health problems in women and children.

In the welcome address, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Khalid Masood Gondal thanked Chairman Punjab Higher Education Commission Prof. Dr. Shahid Munir for participating in the Seminar. He highlighted various aspects of Mental Health. He appreciated the efforts of Department of Psychiatry, Fatima Jinnah Medical University/ Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, related to Mental Health and planned to further strengthen the Department of Psychiatry in future. He also emphasized to solve the psychological problems of flood victims. He further said that Fatima Jinnah Medical University and Fatima Jinnah Medical College Alumni Association of North America (FJMCAANA) have jointly decided to rehabilitate the flood affected areas in which more than one hundred houses will be constructed.

Head of Psychiatry Department King Edward Medical University/ Punjab Institute of Mental Health Prof. Ali Madeeh Hashmi thanked Vice Chancellor Fatima Jinnah Medical University Prof Dr. Khalid Masood Gondal for inviting him in this impressive and informative event. He highlighted various mental diseases. He also recited some poetries of Allama Dr. Muhammad Iqbal and Faiz Ahmed Faiz regarding Mental Health.

Chairman Punjab Higher Education Commission Prof Dr. Shahid Muneer in his address praised the Student Counseling Center established for female students of Fatima Jinnah Medical University. He further said that in order to avoid mental diseases, we should create a strong connection with our Allah Subhan Wa Tala and the Holy Book Quran Majeed.

In the concluding speech, Prof. Dr. Shamsa Humayun presented vote of thanks to all the Guests and also recited some poetries related to Mental Health.

At the end of the seminar, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Khalid Masood Gondal distributed shields among the Chief Guest, Chairman Punjab Higher Education Commission, Prof. Dr. Shahid Munir, and other participants.
