The Students’ Patient Welfare Society Fatima Jinnah Medical University (SPWS, FJMU) organised the Qawwali Night 2023 on Saturday, 7th October 2023 from 4pm to 7:00pm. The event was graced by the presence of Former Dean Undergraduate/ Former Dean Basic Sciences, FJMU Prof. Dr. Munazza Iqbal and Chairperson Department of Medicine/Dean Nursing/ Director QEC, FJMU Prof. Dr. Bilquis Shabbir. The chief guest of the event was Head of Department of Gynaecology and Obstetrics Unit-1, Prof. Dr. Aisha Malik who graced the occasion with her presence along with Head of Department of Peadiatrics Prof. Dr. Naveed Akber Hotiana. Honoured guest of the occasion was Prof. Dr. Abdul Waheed Khan of Surgery Unit 3.The event was supervised by Staff President Shanawar FJMU Dr. Naghmana Latif, Dr. Faiza Abrar, Dr. Asma Junaid and Dr. Amber Noreen.
The event started with the Recitation of the Holy Quran and National Anthem. It was followed by a sufi presentation by FJMU’s first ever music choir. The Qawwals gave their sufi performance which was thoroughly enjoyed by the students and teachers alike.
There were also a variety of stalls of food items, juices and desserts for students to enjoy.
Not only was this a thoroughly enjoyable event for the students of FJMU with splendid decor arrangement but it was a fundraiser with funds going toward patient welfare.
In the past SPWS has conducted numerous donation drives from clothing drive ‘warm a heart’ in winters to donate warm clothes and blankets to deserving families but also conducted numerous Ramzan and Eid ration drives and provided rations to countless deserving families. During COVID lockdown, it was the only society which was active and raised funds and provided essential PPE which was already scarce to frontline workers of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital SGRH. It has also donated to rehabilitation of flooded areas and for treatments of deserving patients. After the success of Fundraiser Bake Sale 2023 and Fundraiser Qawwali Night 2023, SPWS will continue its activities and commitment to patient welfare under the guidance of its patron in chief Vice Chancellor FJMU Prof. Dr. Khalid Masud Gondal, Tamgha e Imtiaz, Presidential Pride of Performance.
In the end there was a shield distribution ceremony to the Executive Board President SPWS Haziqa Salman, Vice Presidents Swera Ahmed and Bakhtawar Khan, Treasurer Sabahat Ali, Decor Head Aiman Khawar, Media Director Manahil Ghani, Representatives Fatima Latif, Ayesha Rana and other society members were awarded shields and medals. Award of honour was given to Prof. Dr. Munazza Iqbal, Prof. Dr. Bilquis Shabbir and Prof. Dr. Aisha Malik. Shanawar heads Dr. Naghmana Latif, Dr. Faiza Abrar, Dr Asma Junaid and Dr. Amber Noreen were also honoured with awards for their tireless dedication and support to make the event possible. In the end Prof. Dr. Bilquis Shabbir appreciated the society and students for maintaining discipline and conducting the event with such grace and dignity. Prof. Dr. Munazza Iqbal’s words were met with applause and admiration from students. The event concluded on a wonderful note with SPWS reiterating its commitment to patient welfare and gratitude to the patron and teachers.
