FAMILY PLANNING, AWARENESS WALK AND PREVENTIVE MEASURES – QUALITY HEALTHCARE

A Seminar on Family Planning Awareness was organized at Fatima Jinnah Medical University. Eminent Gynecologist, Legend of Medical Profession, Professor Emeritus Obstetrics and Gynecology Dr. Rashid Latif Khan grace the occasion as Chief Guest.

Pro Vice Chancellor/ Head of Gynecology Department Prof. Dr. Shamsa Humayun, Prof. Dr. Zohra Khanum, Prof. Dr. Noreen Akmal, Prof. Dr. Shamila Ijaz Munir, Prof. Dr. Tayyaba Waseem, Prof. Dr. Ayesha Malik, Dean Basic Sciences Prof. Dr. Manazza Iqbal, Director Quality. Enhancement Cell Prof. Dr. Bilquis Shabbir and other Faculty Members also participated.
In the Welcome Address, Pro Vice Chancellor/ Head of Gynecology Department Professor Shamsa Humayun gave a detailed briefing. She said that the rate of Family Planning in Pakistan is very low as compared to other Asian Countries.
Prof. Dr. Khalid Masood Gondal in his address expressed his deepest gratitude to the Distinguished Chief Guest Prof. Dr. Rashid Latif Khan. On this occasion, he said that the services of Prof. Dr. Rashid Latif Khan with reference to the Specialist of Gynecology and humanity of unprecedented. He further informed that Prof. Dr. Rashid Latif Khan set up the first IVF Centre in Pakistan in 1984 and delivered the first test tube baby not only of Pakistan but of South Asia in 1988, exactly 11 years after the birth of the first test tube baby of the world. In recognition of his services to the specialty and the field of medicine he was also awarded Sitara-e-Imtiaz in 1992 by the President of Pakistan. He further said that it is very important to have awareness and preventive measures regarding family planning.
He further informed that the Higher Education Commission has included the Journal of Fatima Jinnah Medical University, Lahore in its Y-Category which will prove to be very helpful for the Postgraduate Students Publications. Professor Dr. Khalid Masood Gondal said at the end of his address that Fatima Jinnah Medical University and its Alumni have mutually decided to start Rehabilitation of Flood Affected Areas, where more than fifty houses will be built. Fatima Jinnah Medical University in collaboration with University of Child Health Sciences (UCHS) and FJMCAANA, has ready sent three teams in Flood Effected Areas (Sindh and South Punjab)
In the last address of Seminar, Prof. Dr. Rashid Latif Khan thanked Prof. Dr. Khalid Masud Gondal Vice Chancellor Fatima Jinnah Medical University and all the faculty of Fatima Jinnah Medical University, Lahore. He said that the establishment of Family Planning in Pakistan was in 1953 and the establishment of Family Planning in India was in 1955 but even today Pakistan needs effective measures regarding Family Planning/ Contraception. He further said that it is very important to have Skilled Birth Attendants to reduce the Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR), for which training of about fifty thousand Skilled Birth Attendants is very important.
At the end of the seminar, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Khalid Masood Gondal thanked Prof. Dr. Rashid Latif Khan and presented University Souvenir.
A walk on Awareness regarding Polycystic Ovary Syndrome was also organized at the end of the seminar
