TWO-DAY TRAINING OF LEAD FACILITATORS WORKSHOP ON “WHO LABOUR CARE GUIDE” HELD AT FATIMA JINNAH INSTITUTE OF MOTHER & CHILD HEALTH, FJMU/SGRH, LAHORE

A two-day training workshop on the “Labour Care Guide” was organised by the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology Unit-I, FJMU/SGRH, in collaboration with the Society of Gynaecology, Pakistan (SOGP) and the World Health Organisation (WHO), under the supervision of Chairperson Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Prof. Aisha Malik, on August 3 – 4, 2023, at the Fatima Jinnah Institute of Mother & Child Health, FJMU/SGRH, Lahore.

The Worthy Vice Chancellor, FJMU Prof. Khalid Masud Gondal, graced the occasion as Chief Guest.

Prof. Arshad Chohan graced the occasion as Guest of Honor.

Prof. Bilquis Shabbir, Chairperson Department of Medicine/ Dean Faculty of Nursing/ Director Quality Enhancement Cell, FJMU, Head of Obstetrics & Gynaecology Department Unit-III, FJMU/ SGRH Prof. Shamila Ijaz Munir, Head of Obstetrics & Gynaecology Department Unit-IV, FJMU/SGRH Prof. Amna Euseph, Dr. Amina Ahsan HOD GTHS and other faculty members also attended the workshop.

Prof. Aisha Malik and her team including Dr Hina Akhtar and Dr Sofia welcomed the Hon’ble Chief Guest, Guest of Honor, participants, facilitator Prof Dr. Sadiah Ahsan Pal, and co-facilitators Dr. Shahida Hussain & Dr. Mariam Iqbal, as well as the participants who attended the workshop.

The primary objective of the workshop is to improve the quality of care at the time of birth, which has been identified as the most effective method for reducing stillbirths and maternal and new-born fatalities as compared to prenatal or postnatal care strategies.

The outcomes of this event are to provide technical support in developing Lead facilitators mandated to further develop a pool of provincial Master trainers for Punjab, and the Master trainers will conduct rollout training of the Labour Care Guide across Punjab.

The renowned members of SOGP including Prof. Shaila Anwar from Lahore Medical and Dental College, Prof. Mahliqa Maqsud from Services Hospital Lahore/ Services Institute of Medical college, Prof. Aaliya Bashir, Prof. Faiqa Saleem from Jinnah Hospital Lahore/Allama Iqbal Medical College, Prof. Kiran Khurshid and Prof Mehr un Nisa from Lady Willingdon Hospital/ King Edward Medical University, Associate Professor Dr. Shahida Hussain from NSMC Gujrat, Punjab attended the workshop.

Prof. Dr. Sadiah Pal highlighted the main objective of the training workshop about the Labour Care Guide in an effort to reduce the MMR and improve the Reproductive Health of women.

Prof. Arshad Chohan Vice President (SOGP) Punjab, emphasised on the importance of Labor Care Guide in improving the quality of care around the time of birth by health care professionals.

The workshop was concluded with the distribution of Certificate by the Hon’ble Chief Guest, Vice Chancellor FJMU Prof. Khalid Masud Gondal.
