VICE CHANCELLORS COMMITTEE MEETING

Forty-ninth Meeting of the Vice Chancellors Committee of HEC, comprising of heads of all Public and Private sector universities/HEIs, was held on Wednesday, 31st June 2022. FJMU was represented by Vice Chancellor Prof Khalid Masood Gondal and Pro VC Prof Kamran Khalid Khawaja. The online Zoom meeting was chaired by Hon’ble Chairman HEC & Chair, Vice Chancellors’ Committee, Dr. Iqrar Ahmed Khan, on “Creating tolerance and harmony in Pakistani society – Role of Academia.” Extensive deliberation on 8-point agenda items was held with plausible suggestions and solutions by the learned participants. Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Khalid Masud Gondal, the Vice Chancellor of Fatima Jinnah Medical University emphasised the much needed curricular reforms incorporating Applied Islamic Ethics, Social Grooming, Moral Training, and Judicious Use of Social Media in the undergraduate curricula at schools and college levels.He further emphasized that preventional strategies must be adapted to address the issue at grass root level. Prof. Gondal highlighted the role of mentorship programs, communities of practices at the workplace, and encouraging the intra- and inter-institutional co- and extra-curricular activities as some of the useful strategies in this context.

The chair and members appreciated the suggestions.

This was concluded that working and task force groups comprising Vice Chancellors of various universities, with representation of all provinces and disciplines in each group, will be constituted to develop robust sustainable policy to address the present day burning issue. The working groups will come out with suggestions and remedial strategies within 7 days.

The meeting ended with a vote of thanks by Professor Iqrar.
