On World Arthritis Day as part of Global Rheumatology Educational Initiative, an International Seminar was organized in collaboration with the Arthritis Care Foundation and Fatima Jinnah Medical University, Lahore.
The esteemed Vice Chancellor of Fatima Jinnah Medical University, Professor Khalid Masud Gondal, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.
The President of the Alumni Association (AFJOG), Dr. Munira Ahmed, participated as a Guest of Honor.
Paediatric Rheumatologist, National Institute of Health (USA) Dr. Laura Lewandowski, Director Lupus Clinical Research, National Institute of Health (USA) Dr. Sarfraz Hasni, Chairperson, Arthritis Care Foundation; Prof. Dr. Nighat Mir Ahmed, Co-Chairperson, Arthritis Care Foundation; Prof. Muhammad Ahmed Saeed, Co-Chairperson, Arthritis Care Foundation; Prof. Dr. Sumaira Farman Raja; and Consultant Rheumatologist Fatima Jinnah Medical University/ Sir Ganga Ram Hospital Dr. Bilal Azeem Butt attended as Rheumatology Experts.
Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof. Kamran Khalid Khawaja, Principal Prof. Noreen Akmal, Former Vice Chancellor Prof. Shamsa Humayun, Chairperson Department of Medicine/ Dean Nursing/ Director Quality Enhancement Cell Prof. Bilquis Shabbir, faculty members, and a large number of students were also present on the occasion.
The main objective of the seminar was to create awareness about arthritis.
In his welcome address, Vice-Chancellor Fatima Jinnah Medical University Prof. Dr. Khalid Masood Gondal thanked all the guests and participants, including the guest speakers from the USA, Dr. Laura Lewandowski and Dr. Sarfraz Hasni, Dr. Munira Ahmed, and Dr. Nighat Mir, for attending the seminar.
On this occasion, he appreciated the unforgettable contribution of Prof. Dr. Nighat Mir Ahmed (Chairperson of the Arthritis Care Foundation) in the field of rheumatology. He said that the heads of the Department of Rheumatology of all major hospitals were trained by Prof. Dr. Nighat Mir Ahmed and called Prof. Dr. Nighat Mir Ahmed the Mother of Rheumatology.
Fatima Jinnah Medical University is the only institution where various postgraduate Programs of Level-IV including rheumatology, have been started.
He said that trained consultant rheumatologists from Fatima Jinnah Medical University will soon serve in different hospitals.
Dr. Laura Lewandowski gave a detailed lecture about Lupus Nephritis and explained the diagnosis, types, and differences compared to other diseases.
Dr. Sarfraz Hasni spoke about the concerns about infertility in patients with autoimmune diseases and the problems that occur during pregnancy.
A panel discussion was also organized in the seminar, in which experts from the Department of Rheumatology and Nephrology participated and answered the questions raised by the participants.
At the end of the seminar, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Khalid Masood Gondal distributed shields to the guest speakers from the United States, Dr. Laura Lewandowski and Dr. Sarfraz Hasni, Dr. Munira Ahmed, Dr. Nighat Mir, and other participants and organized an awareness walk.
